For my birthday, Mo got me a surprise trip away. I was told to just show up at the train station at 10:00 am on a Friday morning and that's all I got. When I showed up, she handed me my packed luggage and my passport and away we went. We boarded a bus and it wasn't until we got into the boarding line at the airport that she let me look at where we were going. Ticket just said "London to Alghero". Well, I'd never heard of Alghero so I was thinking it could be Spain or Italy or maybe some tiny Mediterranean island. Wasn't until we landed that I could turn on my GPS and find out we were on the Italian island of Sardinia.
Gorgeous in every way. We stayed in the old historical center of the walled city:
We wandered around the first day, sipping Apperol Spritzes by the bay, ducking into little shops along the narrow cobble stone streets.
At night took in a couple glasses of wine with lovely view
Next day, we got out to see Neptunes Grotto, a cover discovered in the 18th century that's filled with stalactites and stalagmites. You first have to descend down the 654 steps carved into the side of the cliff to get there.
Then you walk through some narrow passage ways before you enter and underground room.
The next day we relaxed on some beautiful white sands beaches. We walked a bit and found a nice quiet spot for with a picnic lunch.
Seafood, coffee, wine are all incredible
Weather
And I didn't plan any of it :)
